Professor Amin Alhassan, the Director General for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has revealed the amount spent to acquire rights for last year’s world cup.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on GTV sighted by Zionfelix.net, Professor Alhassan disclosed that about $1.1 million was invested to acquire the rights—which enabled them to air the Qatar world cup matches for Ghanaians.
He stated that the corporation has always invested to give Ghanaians sports content even when they are not going to make any profit.
Together with other 16 private television stations, Professor Amin Alhassan said not even a quarter of the amount invested to get the rights was recouped.

The GBC Director General indicated that they knew they were not going to get profit from the on-set due to economic issues and probably the performance of the Black Stars.
However, they did their best to serve Ghanaians on free-to-air.
He stressed the policy of GBC and what they intend to do in the future, including broadcasting the English Premier League and European matches if the TV licence funds become available.
