Gospel musician Amy Newman has mentioned humility as a key factor that has kept her marriage for a long time.
She made this statement in an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on Onua Showtime.
The veteran Gospel musician revealed her husband proposed to her when she was 18 years old.
Answering a question about whether she had been in a relationship before meeting her husband, Mrs Newman said she had friends.
“I had friends. God has a way he deals with everyone. God made me understand that the partner I was with at the time was not His choice for me. So, at the age of 18,19, my husband saw me, asked for my hands in marriage and I accepted because sometimes, it is important to look at their backgrounds,” she disclosed.

“My husband is an aristocrat. He had a high level in society unlike me. Looking at where I come from and the kind of person he is, I just gave in and we went to meet my parents. After meeting my husband, in 6 months time, we got married.
“When I started my submission, I mentioned that my financial background was not the best so going into marriage, I had to humble myself. It is all about humility.
Even if I get into a heated argument with my husband, when I notice he is angry, I apologize so that we let things go. So, there is always peace and joy in the house. In marriage, there are definitely quarrels sometimes. It’s not that easy but humility is key. Looking back, I knew I have no one except God whom I look up to and that’s why it is important to be humble,” the Gospel singer added.
After giving birth to eight children—four boys and four girls, Amy Newman put her career on hold to take care of her children.
“Because of the number of kids I have, I didn’t work. I was in the house with them till they became adults. I was a full house wife.”
