Ghanaian music star Stonebwoy is among a list of prominent artists, including Taylor Swift, Drake, and Olivia Rodrigo, facing potential removal of their music from TikTok unless a deal is reached with Universal Music Group (UMG) by the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Signed under UMG’s label division Def Jam Recordings, Stonebwoy’s tracks may be affected as UMG cites inadequate compensation for artists and songwriters as the reason behind the potential removal.
In response, TikTok has accused UMG of prioritizing greed over the interests of artists while highlighting its role as a platform for promoting artist discovery and growth.
Stonebwoy released “Therapy” as his first single under Def Jam after joining the label in 2022.
Our core mission is simple: to help our artists & songwriters attain their greatest creative and commercial potential, which is why we must call time out on TikTok.
