Ghanaian actress-turned-politician Ebi Bright has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

The announcement was made through a press release from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on April 23, 2025, and cited by zionfelix.net.

The nomination, which falls under Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Article 20(1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), places Bright among 71 individuals selected to serve as MCEs across the country, that is after they get approval from their respective local assemblies.

This move is causing some stir currently, especially given Bright’s controversial experience during the 2024 general elections.

It will be recalled that it was initially reported that she won the Tema Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), however, later vote recounts overturned the result, confirming her loss.

Again, some reports before this official annocement indicated that some of the youth in the area were against her appointment.

That not withstanding, many also believe that this MCE nomination is a form of political compensation in the wake of that unexpected outcome.
