Following earlier clashes between some students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) led by students of Katanga hall and a joint task force of the police and military, school authorities and the regional security council have after an emergency meeting resolved to shut down the school indefinitely.
According to media reports cited by zionfelix.net, all local students have been asked to vacate the school premises latest by noon tomorrow October 23. The Ashanti regional minister who communicated this information also stated that the only people who will be given one hall to stay in will be international students. The minister further communicated that curfew has also been placed on the school from 6:00 PM today till 6:00 AM tomorrow.
It would be recalled that soldiers were deployed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to augment efforts by the police to control rampaging students.
Even though the joint task force of these security agencies was present on the premises of the university, the students mounted roadblocks, burnt tires on the streets within the campus and vandalized property. Millions of Ghana cedis worth of properties were destroyed. These activities of the aggrieved students are what has resulted in this decision of authorities of the school.
