As a means of creating their own jobs, the Member of Parliament of Asuogyaman Constituency, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko has urged the youth to take Vocational, Technological and Technical training seriously. According to him, the capacity of government to employ new ones has been exhausted and as such, they should without hesitation consider taking up Vocational, Technological and Technical training in order to establish jobs for themselves.
Speaking to vocational and technical students of Boso Technical and Senior High School (BOSTECH) and Trainees of VOCTECH at the inauguration ceremony of the less privileged youth into Vocational, Technical and Technological (VOCTECH) organized by Universal Light Media (UNILIME) Foundation in partnership with the MP last Saturday at Boso in the Eastern Region.
He said, when they take vocational and technical training seriously, they would acquire relevant and marketable skills which would enable them to pursue their dreams and improve their living standards as individuals. Impact Youth As part of impacting the Youth positively in his Constituency, he said, over the years, he adopted a model of enrolling the youth in Vocational and Technical training to make their lives meaningful, but most of the trainees quit in the course of the training.
This, he said, did not allow him to achieve his goal. Therefore, he changed the model to setting trainees up upon successful completion. “Some years back, I enrolled 100 trainees into Vocational and Technical training but 36 trainees graduated at Frankduam community while at, Anum, I enrolled more than 50 youth in the training with a few graduating,” Hon. Nyarko disclosed. Gearing towards setting up trainees upon graduation, has created a lot of jobs for the youth because, “I provide all the materials and equipment to set them up after their training”, he noted. Hence, the trainees should take their training seriously to spur him to exude his best in assisting them to become better people in the society, he advised.
According to him, he is passionate about youth empowerment and as a result, he proves well prepared to utilize anything that adds value to the lives of the youth and that renders their dreams not far-fetched. This, Hon. Nyarko said was why he partnered with NGOs to empower the less privileged in Vocational and Technical training. “I would enroll more youth on the project if the trainees display seriousness in the training,” the MP said. Economic Empowerment As Member of Parliament, he noted that his vision for the Constituency is to promote economic development, increase the employment rate, reduce social vices and improve the quality of lives of people in his constituency.
The Chief of the Community, Nana Osabarima Agyemang Oboahyia II, who was represented by the Assemblyman, Hon. Isaac Afuyah urged trainees and youth not to see Vocational and Technical training as meant for school dropouts, but rather a sustainable way to employment.
He advised them not to limit themselves only to the training but to see beyond the training and find innovative ways in adding value to their works. Adding that, there are several opportunities in Vocational and Technical training so they should direct their focus on exploring all these opportunities for the betterment of their lives. Mr. Afuyah shared some of the opportunities and beneficial Vocational, Technical and Technological training as a means of encouraging them.
