Ruth Quarshie, Ghana’s representative at this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant has expressed disappointment in Ghanaians after the world event.

The young lady who arrived in Ghana, Tuesday evening after the world event at The Axis, Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States is mad at Ghanaians for failing to support her throughout the show. She told Zionfelix.net at the airport that Ghanaians showed her zero support when she left Ghana for the world event in the USA.

According to her, she needed public votes to win the 66th Miss Universe pageant but sadly, she did not get. When asked if her failure to win the prestigious crown was because Ghanaians did not vote, she boldly answered yes.

“My best was what took me to top 16. They gave the public the chance to vote for top 10 and there was no one there to vote for me. Looking into the crowd, I saw only two people who came to support me. It was hard for me but I knew that if I make an impact, it will be easy for the next person. It was a painful experience.” Ruth Quarshie noted.

The 2017 Miss Universe Ghana winner was optimistic that Ghana can win the Miss Universe crown but quickly added that it will happen when citizens of the country throw their weight behind the person during the world competition.

“Ghana can definately win the crown when Ghanaians recognize that beauty pageant also helps to sell the country. Going there, everybody wants to be in Ghana now. In fact, I sold Ghana. I made everyboy want to come to Ghana for a reason but my people did not support.” the sorrwful beauty queen added.

Quarshie earned an appreciable Top 16 place at the world finals, qualifying from the Africa and Asia zone to join 15 others including Miss South Africa who eventually won.

The Top 16 achievement was Ghana’s best showing (in terms of position) since 1999 when Akuba Cudjoe qualified as a Top 10 finalist. Ghana’s other achievement was in 2006 when Angela Asare was named Miss Congeniality even though she didn’t make the list of finalists.

Ruth Quarshie is a graduate of the University of Ghana Business School. She won the national pageant in Accra in September this year.

The Miss Universe Organization is run by women for women, and built on a foundation of inclusion which continues to be a celebration of diversity. Annually, nearly ten thousand young women participate in the Miss Universe Pageant events.

The contestants and titleholders that have gone through the Miss Universe system cultivate their personal career goals, become advocates for humanitarian issues and have gone on to high-profile careers in government, business, finance, broadcasting, as well as film and television among others.

The 66th Miss Universe pageant was held at The Axis, Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It was hosted by Steve Harvey and Ashely Graham. Contestants from 92 countries and territories participated in this year’s pageant, surpassing the previous record of 89 contestants.

This year’s winner Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, takes over from France’s Iris Mittenaere.
