In an exclusive interview with Asempa FM, Baffour Gyan, the brother of former Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan, shed light on the recent court ruling regardinghis brother’s marriage annulment case. Contrary to what has been widely reported, Baffour Gyan asserted that they consider it a victory for the Gyan brothers.
Addressing the misconceptions surrounding the case, Baffour Gyan stated he has heard some reports that the ruling has hurt the Gyan brothers, however, they are the victors in this case. “I’ve heard the news, it’s our (Gyan brothers) victory and people have turned it around,” Baffour Gyan said.
Providing further details on the court proceedings that took place on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Baffour Gyan disclosed that the legal battle initiated five years ago when Asamoah Gyan discovered that his wife, Gifty Gyan, had been previously married before marrying him without his knowledge. In response, Asamoah took the matter to court for investigation, with the condition that if Gifty’s prior marriage was confirmed, their marriage should be annulled.
Baffour Gyan also confirmed that the court had indeed annulled the marriage, stating, “So the ruling came today, and the court found out that indeed, Gifty had been married, and as per Ghana’s law, a woman cannot be married to two men at the same time. So the court annulled the marriage, stating that it doesn’t exist.”
Regarding the distribution of properties in the divorce settlement, Baffour Gyan clarified that all the properties mentioned were already registered in Gifty Gyan’s name, as they were originally hers. He explained, “On the matter of the properties, when Asamoah and Gifty were together, he bought Gifty and the kids a house in Spintex, so that house was already in Gifty’s name. Gifty also bought a plot of land in Tema to be used as a gas station, that piece of land was also in her name already. And then the Infiniti car.”
