Ghanaian musician, Odartei Milla Lamptey, popularly known as Gasmilla, or International Fisherman, is not in relenting in his fight as the originator of Azonto.
In his quest to articulate his knowledge about Azonto, Gasmilla revealed in an interview monitored by Zionfelix.net that Azonto gave birth to Afrobeat.

He told Caleb Nii Boye in this interview on Live FM that Azonto has evolved.
“Azonto has evolved, not just the sound but the dance itself. If you look at Dancegod, Incredible Zigi and all those boys…they have the Azonto basics but they sort of combined different styles from Nigeria, South Africa and the world to make it global,” Gasmilla stated.

“So Azonto as a sound has also evolved to a point where we are adding different stuff from the Eastern and Western of Africa and even South Africa to make it a global sound that is recognized from Africa. So Azonto has evolved…Azonto evolved to the point that it got a child and they twisted the name and made it Afrobeat and you people are here saying you do Afrobeat,” he added.
Sarkodie’s call for Azonto to be revived sparked a wild debate within the Ghanaian music scene for some days now.
