The 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 4, will be a pivotal moment in Ghana’s political landscape.

The two leading political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are preparing for a closely contested race.

The NPP, currently in power, is expected to field Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer. Dr. Bawumia has been a key figure in the government’s economic management team and is known for his expertise in finance and economics.

The NPP’s supporters are hopeful that the party’s infrastructure projects and economic policies will secure them another term in office.

On the other hand, the NDC is rallying behind former President John Dramani Mahama, who aims to return to the presidency.

Former Prez. Mahama has been critical of the current administration’s handling of the economy and has promised to address the pressing issues facing the country. The NDC’s base is enthusiastic about their candidate’s experience and his plans for reform.

SDK Dele‘s warning is a call for Ghanaians to remain vigilant and not be swayed solely by the visible improvements such as road construction.

He urges the electorate to consider the broader context, including the ongoing challenges and the overall performance of the government.

As the election date approaches, both parties will intensify their campaigns, promising various developments and improvements. It is crucial for voters to critically evaluate these promises, considering both the present conditions and the future direction they envision for the country.
