EdemFest, the annual festival by rapper Denning Edem Hotor (who simply trades by the alias Edem) has been launched in Accra.
The second edition, the festival, organisers say, will be attended by an estimated 20,000, twice the number that graced the inaugural event held on the Keta High Street in November last year. This year, the event, which will serve as precursor to the Hogbetsotso Festival, has been slated for the Aborigines Beach Resort, Keta, on November 2nd. It will be held with the objective of tackling sand winning, and open defecation. Last year, Edemfest sought to raise awareness on the effects of illegal fishing.
A day-long event highlighted by a grand musical concert, Edemfest serves as an aspect of the rapper’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities, and consists various activities catering to art, culture, tourism and business.

Speaking to the media at a presser compered by broadcaster Giovanni Caleb, Edem touched on the philosophy behind which the festival was conceived: “Especially in an era where it is easy to lose our identity whilst navigating the globalization question, Edemfest was conceived as part of brand Edem’s Corporate Social Responsibility, as an avenue to remind ourselves of an illustrious heritage as a people, and a wake up call for us to preserve the very culture that makes us unique.” he said.
Edemfest 2018 is put together in partnership with Clayman Impression, Griddle Kitchen, Gbevunation, Rythms Africa, and Genet Services. Sponsors include Snappy Snacks, MTN, Aborigines Beach Resort, and Betway, while JK Horgle Transport, OBZ Group of Companies, and Top Oil constitute key donors.
