Ghanaian actor, entrepreneur, and now politician, John Dumelo has sent shockwaves through the political landscape by hinting at a historic victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

This feat, if confirmed, will mark the first time in 24 years that the NDC has won the seat.

Taking to his Facebook wall on Sunday, December 8, 2024, the actor-turned-politician announced his projected victory with an emphatic post:
“With 13 polling stations to go, I can confidently say we have won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the first time in 24 years. #idey4u”

The declaration comes after a fiercely contested race against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The constituency has over the years been a stronghold of the NPP and many thought that Hon. Lydia Alhassan was going to retain her seat.

However, the dynamic campaign strategy of the award-winning actor and his team appear to have worked some magic on the youthful and diverse voter base of the constituency.

As Ghanaians await the official confirmation of the results, social media is already abuzz with congratulatory messages from NDC supporters and political enthusiasts.
