Ghanaian musician, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, also known as Guru, has won the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential election at the University of Ghana.

This followed weeks of campaigning, which was fraught with disqualifications, legal battles, and other challenges.

The ‘Lapaz Toyota’ hitmaker and his running mate, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah secured 50.7% with 9,455 votes.

The elections saw a voter turnout of 18,659.

Last week, the school’s Appeals Board unanimously overturned his disqualification which was premised on the fact that he was a non-resident student.

The SRC argued that Guru and another candidate did not satisfy the conditions that qualified them to contest the position.

After a legal tussle, the judicial board confirmed that the grounds for the disqualification were legitimate. As such the musician can not contest in the election.
