The arrest of protestors in Ghana has got many people talking.

Some of these protestors have been reminded following their arrest on Sunday, September 22, 2024, while participating in a demonstration organized by Democracy Hub.

An online campaign #FreetheCitizens was launched online with a section of Ghana celebrities joining.

For his part, Ghanaian rapper and businessman, D-Black, known in private life as Desmond Blackmore, urged the police not to intimidate and oppress citizens.

He said they should rather help the citizens.

“We’re in a country where freedom of speech, especially by the youth, should be free for everyone. I asked if the police had put out a statement because I really don’t know the reason behind them being arrested. I’ve looked everywhere. I look on social media and I don’t see any particular reason why the police have arrested youth for demonstrating.

“There are people who are protesting, who are not protesting because of any party affiliations. Politics will always mar some of these things. You have 100 good nuts and then you have, like, 20 bad. That will take it to the extreme. But I feel like the police are supposed to protect us, not intimidate and distress us,” D-Black told GhanaWeb TV’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment.

Sharing his experience after participating in a demonstration some time ago, he recounted: “Last year I showed up at one of the protests at 37. It was a Sunday and there were thousands of people. This didn’t happen. So I’m really surprised.”

“I really pray and hope the right thing is done at this point,” D-Black added.
