Ghanaian singer, Sister Derby, has revealed why she relocated to Ghana after acquiring master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
Speaking in a recent interview on 3Music TV, the ‘Uncle Obama’ singer opened up about how she struggled to get a job in the UK.
Despite submitting many job applications, Derby said she couldn’t get any.
“I applied for so many jobs, but I couldn’t get one. So, I spoke to one of my professors and she told me that due to the recession in the UK, they are employing citizens before other nationalities.
“I went to so many job interviews in big publishing companies but I wasn’t called… I registered with a lot of different agencies for jobs but I wasn’t called too, so I decided to come back to Ghana,” she said.

Later, Sister Derby recalled a Nigerian helped her to get a job at one of the biggest pharmacies in the UK as a salesperson—but looking at her position as a master’s degree graduate, she quit the job, thinking that it was below her level.
Following this, the Ghanaian singer decided to relocate to Ghana.
“When I decided to return to Ghana and look for a job here, I happened to be on the last Ghana Airwaves flight I think somewhere in January 2010,” Sister Derby revealed.
