Finally, someone from Ghana has laid claim to originating drill music in the country.

The music genre which originally came from the South side of Chicago is being widely sanged in Ghana by both solo artiste and music groups.

While there is not an authoritative originator, Asakaa boys have been widely praised and have received global recognition for making the genre a household one just like rap and afrobeats.

In a tweet today, Ghanaian rapper, Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has claimed that he birthed the genre in Ghana. As controversial as this might be since no one can track dates and tunes under the genre, Medikal seems very sure of what he has done.

The rapper is not only laying claim to the genre. He is also demanding royalties from all those benefiting from it.

He is demanding 20 percent on proceeds from all local musicians who are using drill in making their songs.
