Ghanaian dancehall/reggae artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has said he won’t lose anything if he does not participate in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
He stated that the award scheme has been instituted to make monies from musicians.
“I won’t lose anything if I do not participate in the Ghana music award. The award was created to make money out us, that is what I believe,” he told Paul Adom Okyere in an interview on Metro TV’s ‘Good Evening Ghana’ which was monitored by zionfelix.net.
Shatta Wale also bemoaned how the organizers of such awards treat musicians in the country.
“The respect for Ghana musicians has been so cheap and they feel everybody is like that. People want to win awards, put it in their rooms and watch it every day and feel happy about it but I can’t take a loan with the numerous awards that I have won which are sitting in my room right now. I can’t take it to the embassy and acquire a visa without passing through the right process,” he stated passionately.
He also pointed out how the system is Ghana is not helping the musicians.
Shatta Wale felt he was mistreated by the VGMA organizers following the fracas between him and Stonebwoy.
He still stood by his statement that he didn’t go on the stage to fight.
Ironically, the ‘Gringo’ composer said he was going to use the washroom but after he saw someone fighting with his team members he also went to the scene.
