Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has spoken about the current state of the movie industry.

Socrate, who is also chairman of the Ghana Classification Board mentioned ignorance and lack of education as what caused the current state of the movie industry in Ghana.

He said many people were passionate when entering the movie industry, and apart from the passion, they did not have any proper orientation.

To him, the unavailability of structured guidance and education had caused harm.

Mr Safo stressed that talents did not know the realities of the industry—since they were not oriented.

“It’s not growing as it’s supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees.

“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without the proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.

“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We do this because of ABCD; we don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that. Nobody ever did,” Socrate Safo said in an interview on 3FM.
