Albinism is a recessive condition that drastically reduces the amount of melanin in the skin and can lead to problems like vision loss and skin cancer.

According to Unique, people who are ignorant of the condition tend to stigmatize albinos.

“People don’t understand how two black people can give birth to a white kid hence they don’t know how to accept you”.

According to the university of Ghana student, the tendency of people shunning her company was worse when she was younger and reduced as she climbed the academic ladder.

Speaking to Zionfelix uncut, she explained people actually warm up to her once she sensitizes and enlightens them on the condition.

It is an understatement to say that Ghanaians with albinism are stigmatized.

Some believe their presence is a sign of bad luck, leading their parents to avoid acknowledging them or even to try to kill them.

Others believe their body parts can bring fortune and prosperity, prompting people to kill them or traffickers to sell them for their body parts.

Ghana has an estimated number of about 2,000 individuals with albinism and it is time to throw more light on the condition.
