The recent appointment of actress and media personality Joselyn Dumas as the Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration appears to have sparked a bit of a controversy.
As many people have been congratulating the award-winning over the new role she has been given, actress and producer Safina Haroun has decided to rather publicly question the decision.
In a comment spotted on a post shared by zionfelix.net on Facebook, Safina Haroun expressed her disapproval, stating unequivocally that Joselyn Dumas does not deserve the role.
According to Safina, if the position of Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs was indeed available, the most suitable candidate should have been Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, popularly known as Dentaa.
Dentaa, a British Ghanaian entrepreneur, actress, TV presenter, singer, producer, and manager, has long been an influential figure within the Ghanaian diaspora. She is the producer of The Dentaa Show and the founder of the Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards — an initiative that celebrates individuals and organizations making positive contributions to the Ghanaian community both in the UK and Ghana.
Safina Haroun’s comment seems to suggest that Dentaa’s extensive work in bridging the gap between Ghana and its diaspora community makes her far more qualified for the role than Joselyn Dumas.
Joselyn Dumas’ new position will see her assisting Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), who was named the Director for Diaspora Affairs just last week — a role confirmed by Obuobia Darko-Opoku through a Facebook post on February 26, 2025.
