Ghanaian actress and director, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, has shared why she chose and recommended Fella Makafui as the main Ghanaian lead in Anikulapo.
Although Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo was released in 2022, Juliet opened up about her decision in a post sighted by Zionfelix.net on March 12, 2025.
The outgoing executive secretary of the National Film Authority explained that Fella’s willingness to learn Yoruba played a key role in her selection.
Juliet recounted their conversation: “Why Fella? I asked if she could learn Yoruba, and she confidently said, ‘Yes, Ma, I promise to do my best and make you proud.’ That commitment was confirmed after the first script reading. Fella joined the cast online from Ghana and insisted on speaking Yoruba. Her effort was touching, and soon after, I got a call…”
She continued: “Kunle said, ‘Juliet, I think we made the absolute best choice.’ Fella was always on time, never a minute late. There’s even a funny story of how she woke up from a nap speaking Yoruba in a daze!”

Juliet praised Fella’s dedication, noting that she worked hard, studied her lines, and fully immersed herself in the role. Even when speaking Fante, she eagerly sought guidance to perfect it.
“She mixed well with everyone, stayed humble, rode that horse, and kept a positive vibe—even during long night shoots. At the end of it all, she sent me an essay expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. She truly impressed everyone.”
Juliet wrapped up by encouraging Ghanaian actors to seize opportunities with dedication: “As more productions come to Ghana, I hope everyone who gets a chance will do their homework and leave a lasting impression. Film is hard work—do the work!”
