Popular Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has recently addressed reports suggesting that her colleague, actor Kwadwo Nkansah, better known as Lilwin, has sought an out-of-court settlement concerning her defamation suit against him.

She has firmly debunked these claims.

According to reports by GhOne News, an Accra High Court was allegedly informed of Lilwin’s decision to pursue an amicable settlement.

However, in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Entertainment on August 1, 2024, Martha Ankomah categorically denied such reports, stating unequivocally that the defamation case remains in court and that neither Lilwin nor his legal team has approached her for a settlement.

“It is not true, Lilwin has never approached me for an out-of-court settlement. The case is still in court. He hasn’t even approached me personally; he has only sent people to come and talk to me,” Ankomah emphasized.

Martha Ankomah further confirmed that Lilwin has not attended any court proceedings since the case commenced.

Adding that his absence has not gone unnoticed.

“If he does the right thing, why not? I am a Christian; I am ready to forgive. He came out to insult me publicly, so it is only fair that he comes back out to retract and apologize for his statements,” Ankomah stated. Her conditional openness to forgiveness underscores her commitment to justice and personal principles.

Background

The origins of this legal battle trace back to a defamation lawsuit filed by Martha Ankomah against Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin. The suit was prompted by derogatory remarks made by Lilwin in a viral video, which Ankomah claims severely damaged her reputation and that of the textile brand GTP.

The lawsuit seeks GH¢5 million in damages, including compensatory and aggravated damages. Additionally, Ankomah demands a public apology, a retraction of the defamatory statements, and an injunction to prevent further defamatory remarks from Lilwin.

The controversy began when Martha Ankomah expressed her interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors during an interview on Accra FM, highlighting her appreciation for their storylines. Lilwin, in response, posted a video filled with insults directed at Ankomah, which subsequently led to the defamation suit.

As the case continues to unfold, the public remains keenly interested in the outcome. Martha Ankomah’s steadfast pursuit of justice and her readiness to forgive if Lilwin makes amends reflect her balanced approach to resolving the dispute. Meanwhile, Lilwin’s next steps remain uncertain, as the legal proceedings continue to garner attention within the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
