The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo during his 5th address to the nation regarding the coronavirus outbreak has announced some mouth-watering packages for frontline workers who are working tirelessly to save lives despite all the danger involved and ordinary Ghanaians.
He disclosed during the address on Saturday night that the government will be absorbing the water bills of Ghanaians for three months to reduce the pressure on citizens whilst they go through these difficult times because of the pandemic.
The months in question are April, May, and June.
President Akufo-Addo also announced that frontline health professionals during this pandemic will get some special packages to cushion them.
He mentioned that there will be a daily allowance of GHS 150 for all contact tracers, GHS 350,000 insurance packages for all frontline workers involved in COVID-19 and added that all frontline workers will get 50% of their salaries in addition to regular salary for 3 months.
On speculations that the partial lockdown will be extended, President Nana Akufo-Addo stated that the government will make a determination on it next week.
He emphasized the decision will be based mainly on the results of the over 19,000 tests being conducted due to the enhanced contact tracing exercise.
