In a display of true commitment to his promise, popular Ghanaian politician and actor John Dumelo stood by his pledge, embarking on an extraordinary barefoot walk from the University of Ghana’s main gate to the premises of Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC) Legon.
Dumelo’s decision to embark on this journey was born from his promise ahead of the grand finale of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), where he fervently championed his alma mater, Achimota School, and vowed to undertake the lengthy walk should they not emerge victorious.
After the outcome of the NSMQ23 become evident to everyone, where Achimota School lost to PRESEC, calls erupted across social media urging Dumelo to fulfill his promise. Responding to these appeals, he gracefully commended PRESEC for their triumph and remained resolute in “walking the talk.”
Expressing his heartfelt pride in Achimota School and Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS) for their remarkable journey in the competition, Dumelo reiterated his commitment to honoring his word.
“I am a man of my word. I will be walking backward barefoot from the UG main gate to the Presec gate Tomorrow, October 31 at 4 p.m. I want to congratulate Presec for winning the NSMQ Grand Finale. I am wholeheartedly proud of my Achimota School and also OWASS. I will walk the talk. #idey4u,” he articulated on his X page, formerly known as Twitter.
The recent NSMQ23 tournament witnessed the rise of Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, achieving a record of eight-time winners. Their final round surprise strategically positioned them above the revered Opoku Ware Senior High School and the resilient Achimota School, ultimately clinching the coveted victory.
