Actress and entrepreneur Beverly Afaglo has expressed her displeasure at government’s decision to build film villages instead of cinemas in Ghana.
Few months ago, the Creative Arts Council revealed its resolve to build two Film Villages, each in the Eastern and Ashanti regions.
They explained one of the villages would be sited in Kumasi to serve the Northern Sector from Ashanti Region while the other would be sited in the Eastern region to serve the Southern Sector.
This has been received with mixed emotions as some industry players believe building of cinemas should be prioritised over film villages.
In an interview with Zionfelix uncut, Beverly quizzed if Ghanaians actually understood the actual concept of film villages.
She “prophesied” an era where people would complain when they realise they need to pay before they use the facility. She explained this would make maintenance of the facility totally impossible.
In her words, “we as a country haven’t reached the level of film villages”.
Beverly appealed to government and private entities to invest in building cinemas because it is a very lucrative venture.
