On Saturday, September 28, 2019, the United Nations Refugee Agency organized the Ghana version of Step For Safety – a health walk campaign created from its Luquluqu program launched in 2017.

Luquluqu campaign raised awareness on the worsening refugee crisis within the continent, the program uses influential personalities and individuals across the countries its operate in on the continent to propagate the message and bring the world’s attention on refugees and finding an immediate and long-term solution.

Nikki Samonas participates in Step For Safety by Luquluqu

In Ghana, the Step For Safety health walk started from the Accra Polo Club with Ghanaian actress and on-air personality, Nikki Samonas, actress and lecturer, Adjetey Anang, radio hosts, Giovani Caleb and Antoine Mensah, among others. Participated walked through the liberation road to 37, Airport and back to the starting point. Activities such as aerobics were held, Nikki Samonas led the Luquluqu anthem recital, music performance from Herman $uede and theatrical performance held to throw light on the plight of refugees, with the main cause being civil wars, violence and conflict.

The main aim of the Luquluqu campaign is to redirect the general perception away from the refugee narrative of a victim, burden, or even threat and instead highlight the resilience, courage and potential of people forced to flee.
