Sarkcess Music boss, Michael Owusu Addo, popular known as Sarkodie has been named the Artiste of the last decade.
This category was the most talked about category in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was the awards scheme’s 20th anniversary.
The Artiste of the Decade at the 2019 VGMAs was a category was one which was fiercely contested. The category had names like Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and R2Bees, Efya, Becca, Okyeame Kwame, No Tribe & Nacee and Joe Mettle battling it out with the eventual winner, Sarkodie.
Prior to the awards tonight, the fans of the multiple award-winning rapper stated that he was the most suitable for the award because he was nominated for the Artiste of the Year for 6 unprecedented consecutive times (2014 – 2019), and 8 times in total within the last decade.
They also stated that his audience appeal and popularity over the last 10 years has even transcended the borders of Ghana significantly. They added that it earned him enviable honors such as the first Ghanaian to ever win a BET award (2012), won the Hip Hop Artiste of the Year at the 2014 MAMAs, won the Headies in Nigeria on 3 occasions, a number of AFRIMAs, among others.
