Top Model Victoria Michaela has been appointed as the Champion of the environment for the European Union in Ghana. The theme for this years Climate diplomacy week event is “Regreening Ghana”. This partnership will see Victoria Michaels and the European Union partner together for a national tree planting campaign across different schools in the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.
In her remark during the Launch of the Diplomacy Week which was attended by Mrs Diana Acconcia, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, The Mayor of Accra, diplomats and civil societies, Victoria urged for more work and less talk on the very pressing and devastating issue of climate change. She urged for more public and private sector collaboration towards the preservation of the environment.
She went on to say that her Foundation The African Literacy Development Initiative (ALDI) will partner the European Union in the area of educating and informing the general public on the importance of both the survival of our forests and the impact of continuous regreening of our natural space.
The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs Acconcia told the gathering that the EU would in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Municipal Assemblies has engaged various players in this years activities which will include tree planting, awareness programs in schools, roundtable discussions on regreening the city, a workshop on youth and deforestation as well as beach cleaning exercise.
Mr Desmond Appiah of the Accra Municipal Assembly acknowledged the EU for its sustained support in diverse areas over the years.
