Auntie Bee, a prominent figure in the Ghanaian movie industry, has expressed deep disappointment over her lack of tangible benefits from her acting career spanning more than two decades.

Speaking on Accra FM’s midmorning program with Nana Romeo on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the seasoned actress revealed that despite her extensive contributions to the industry, she has little to show for it.

During the interview, Auntie Bee, whose real name is Harriet Naa Akleh Okantey, lamented that the only reward she has reaped from her acting career is fame. “The only thing I can boast of from movies is fame, which makes people cheer me on whenever I am in town,” she said.

However, when it comes to physical assets, she admitted that she has none to her name, except for a car gifted to her by Rev. Obofour, the founder and leader of Anointed Palace Church, who admired her work as an actress.

Auntie Bee’s revelation did not stop at material possessions. She bitterly complained about the personal sacrifices she made for her career. “During my time as an actress, I was so concentrated on the career that I did not even take time off to marry and give birth because I felt it was going to disrupt my career,” she disclosed.

The veteran actress also shed light on the financial struggles that plagued her and her contemporaries during their heyday. “When we were popular for acting, there was not enough money from the job, only what could sustain you,” she explained.

In stark contrast, she pointed out that the current generation of actors enjoys significantly higher earnings. “Now, there is a lot of money in the acting job, but sadly, we have faded out and cannot get jobs,” Auntie Bee remarked.
