The 2023 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards recently took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center.
On the night, some Ghanaian musicians and industry players who were gathered at the auditorium walked home feeling very happy because they got an award or their favorite won an award they felt the person deserved, while others felt disappointed because the reverse was the case.

One particular category that caused a lot of brouhaha on social media was the ‘Album of the Year’ category which had King Promise’s ‘5Star’ album being crowned the ultimate winner as against Black Sherif’s ‘The Villian I Never Was’ album that was initially tipped by manner people.
Soon after the awards event, a lot of respected people in the entertainment space including the renowned radio/TV personality, Sammy Baah Flex disclosed that they were disappointed Black Sherif could not win the award.
After weeks of criticism on social media, the Legacy Life Entertainment signed artiste finally broke his silence on the whole brouhaha when he was interviewed on UTV’s United Showbiz which is hosted by MzGee.
According to King Promise, he does not begrudge anyone who feels he does not deserve the award because that is the person’s personal opinion.
King Promise went on to state that in years past people were also disappointed that he failed to win a particular award so it was quite normal.
He however added that just like any other person nominated in that category, he equally stood the chance to win for which reason he feels very proud.
The ‘Terminator’ hitmaker added that he put in a lot of work to make his ‘5Star’ album and the same energy was expanded to the promotion of the album when it was done.
He ended by stating that this was his time to shine and he wholeheartedly embraces it.
